TYK How To: Choosing the Correct Inner Tube Size

If you rely on your vehicle day in and day out, you know the importance of keeping everything in working order—including your tires. When it’s time to replace an inner tube on your tractor, ATV, lawn mower, trailer, or even passenger vehicle, getting the right size is crucial. The wrong fit can lead to blowouts, leaks, or downtime you just don’t have time for.
But we understand how quickly it can become confusing and time consuming, so we're here to help!
This TYK Industries How To Guide is here to make it easier. We’ll walk you through how to find the correct inner tube size for your equipment by reading tire sidewall markings, understanding tube sizing, and choosing the right valve type. Whether you’re fixing a flat in the field or stocking up your workshop, we’ve also included a handy inner tube fitment tool to make the process even easier.
Because when you’re running a farm or tackling weekend projects, the last thing you need is a preventable tire problem.
To choose the correct TYK Industries inner tube for your ATV, lawn mower, or Agriculture tire, follow these steps:
1. Check the Tire Size on the Sidewall
Look at the sidewall of your tire. You’ll see a size like:
- ATV: 25x8-12
- Lawn mower: 15x6.00-6
- Farm/ag tire: 11.2-24 or 9.5L-15
This tells you:
- Tire height (in inches)
- Tire width
- Rim diameter
Match the inner tube size exactly or use one that lists your tire size as part of a size range.
2. Match Valve Stem Type
There are different types of valve stems based on application and clearance.
Examples:
|
Valve Stem |
Description |
Use |
|
TR-13 |
Short rubber stem |
Common for lawn/garden/ATVs |
|
TR-6 |
Straight metal stem |
ATV or Motorcycle |
|
TR-87 |
Bent metal stem |
Scooter and small equipment |
|
TR-218A |
Metal stem |
Larger tractor and industrial tires |
Choose the valve stem that fits your rim hole size and clearance needs.
3. Use an Inner Tube Sizing Chart or Cross-Reference
TYK Industries Fitment Page helps you find the correct tube for your tire. We offer compatibility charts in most product descriptions to ensure the correct fit every time.
Example:
If your tire reads:
“20x10.00-8” → You need an inner tube labeled for 20x10.00-8 or a size range that includes it.
Valve stem: TR-13 is typical unless your rim requires something different.
